Music

For an outline of the Music curriculum by year group please see our Curriculum Guides.

The Director of Music and Drama is Mr Alvaro Cortes supported by Mr Peter Snell and Mrs Helen Mitchell.  We have an expert team of twelve visiting teachers, with harp and bagpipe tuition taking place out of school.

The Department is busy and very active in many aspects of school life.

Lunchtime concerts are held in the Music School and Vibes, a mixture of music with readings and poems, is held in the Library.

The Big Band and Rock Band provide the musical entertainment each year at the School’s birthday celebrations and Summer Fete.

One of the Department’s great strengths is in the wealth of ensembles we are able to provide.  These are crucial for the musical development of our pupils and bring out the very best bits of music-making; the sociability engendered by making music together in a group; the huge improvement in progress made by playing with others and, most importantly, the ability to give pleasure to others as well as themselves.
