Soccer - U9 A VII vs St Joseph's College (H), Monday 6 October 2014
Holmwood’s first match of the week was against St Joseph’s. Holwood started with the same seven players from the previous week against Colchester High. A very slow start meant Holmwood were 2 goals down within five minutes. A quick change was needed and Henry D was introduced in defence. Holmwood soon settled and got back into the game via 2 Ned N goals. The boys started to pass the ball and, on one occasion, strung a dozen passes together. Harry O worked hard in midfield to deny St Joseph’s talented midfielder any time and space. Alex B and Henry D looked composed on the ball and played out from the back whenever possible. Sam F, James P and Ralph BS again gave excellent width when in attack and defended well when the ball was lost. Holmwood dominated the second half, but St Joe’s still posed a threat on the break.
Ned N finished with 5 goals, Harry O with 3 and a cheeky goal was scored by Patch A when he was released up front in the final 5 minutes rounded off the scoring.
Well done boys, you continue to improve with each match.
Result: Holmwood 9 - 5 St Joseph’s
Soccer - U9 B VII vs St Joseph's College (H), Monday 6 October 2014
Holmwood's first of two matches this week was against St Joseph's. A weak start saw the boys down 2-0 within 3 minutes. However, Holmwood soon found their feet with Christopher T latching on to a through ball from Rufus C - GOAL!! 2-1 to St Joe's.
The game started to take shape with both teams being very evenly matched. Christopher T was again in the right place for his second goal of the game. William T and William W defended very well with some excellent balls out to the midfielders. Hector BP (up from the Cs this week) had a great first game in the Bs putting in some great crosses and gaining an assist for Christopher's third goal to make it 3-2 to Holmwood. St Joseph's soon drew equal again with some great pressure from their forwards to even the score at 3-3. Captain Louis L played in defence, replacing Gus A for the last 10 minutes, and started a passing move which resulted with 5 complete passes from Holmwood and Christopher was on hand to score his fouth! This made it 4-3 to Holmwood.
In the last few minutes the game, Holmwood had settled down and the boys passing the ball from defence to midfield with confidence was a pleasure watch. T he game finished 5-3 to Holmwood but St Joseph's had battled hard and it was a great team performance from Holmwood right to the end. Well played boys!
