Soccer - U9 A VII vs Prettygate (H), Wednesday 8 October 2014

Holmwood’s second match of the week saw them play a very skilful and talented Prettygate team.  Holwood started slowly and conceded an early goal.  Ned N continued his fine work up front and equalised with a low shot across the Prettygate keeper into the far corner.  Harry O was working his socks off in centre midfield, battling to win the ball back and spreading play at every opportunity.   Henry D and Alex B both defended well and Henry D’s pace got Holmwood out of trouble on several occasions.

Holmwood’s second goal came from Ned N’s excellent movement followed by Harry O’s pass and Ned N rounded the keeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.  Patch A made several neat saves to keep Holmwood on level terms but was caught slightly out of position for Prettygate’s third goal.  Holmwood battled back and Ned N completed his hat-trick after his shot from a tight angle hit the Prettygate keeper in the chest and dropped into the net.

A great game of football to referee, watch and play in.  Well done, boys.

Result:  Holmwood 3 - 3 Prettygate

Soccer - U9 B VII vs Prettygate (H), Wednesday 8 October 2014

A hard game for Holmwood, but the boys stuck at it and managed a draw in the second half.  William T played very well in defence, showing some really gutsy tackles.  Louis L and Christopher T showed great bravery against some strong opposition.  Well played Holmwood!

Scorers:  Christopher T (2) and Rufus C

Result:  Holmwood 3 - 9 Prettygate

Soccer - U9 C VII vs Prettygate (H), Wednesday 8 October 2014

Owen J was Captain for this game and led by example. He tried exceptionally hard up front and persisted throughout the match. Harry P and Damon B held their positions well and ran their socks off up and down the pitch. Ed G and Josiah C were good in defence putting in crucial tackles at times and clearing the ball powerfully. Josh was great in goal, saving the ball twice and kicking the ball upfield fairly consistently. Hector B-P was excellent for three-quarters of the match and lost momentum at the end. The team kept formation very well and tackled fairly hard. They have improved a great deal but came up against a strong opposition team. A good effort, well done!

Final score: Holmwood 0 - 2 Prettygate
