Soccer - U9 B VII Tournament at Littlegarth (A)

Holmwood's Under 9 B's played in a round-robin style tournament with eight teams made up of two groups of four. Holmwood were in Group B with Moreton Hall, St Nicholas and St Joseph's schools.  The boys played three group matches, drawing two against St Nicholas and St Joseph's and losing against Moreton Hall.  Great character  was shown in the group matches with some notable performances from Josiah C (up from the C team due to an illness for William W) William T, Christopher T  and
Hector B showing great resilience both in goal and on pitch. But more was to come - the boys had earned themselves a place in the Plate knock-out stages!

Holmwood had to face The Abbey next in the first of the knockout games. A win would give them a place in the Plate competition's final! Holmwood started the game with a very quick goal from Christopher T after some great passing from the kick off by
Rufus C.  The games lasted 10 minutes each and Holmwood looked at ease. However, for the last 4 minutes, The Abbey pressed against the Holmwood back line.  Gus A and Louis L stood tall though soaking up the pressure like a sponges.  The Abbey scored a late equaliser resulting in penalty shoot-out to decide the winners. Holmwood's penalty taker Hector B, Christopher T and Gus A all scored to seal the route to the final!

The final was against the hosts, Littlegarth. This was to be a strong test for Holmwood. With the weather turning cold and some tired legs, they produced their best game of the afternoon! The game was great to watch end to end; credit to Littlegarth's players also. Some fabulous football was played, with Holmwood comimg close to sealing victory as Christopher T made some terrifying runs at the Littlegarth's defence. The game finished in draw. Another penalty shoot-out was needed to decide the victors. Three new penalty takers stepped up for Holmwood, again all scoring and sealing victory for Holmwood!

A great afternoon's football a well-organised tournament. Thanks to Littlegarth and winners medals to all players and coaches!
Hector B, our captain for the last three games, lifted the plate with a cheer from the travelling supporters. Well played boys, a great effort and you have earned your medals!
