Rugby - 1st XIII vs South Lee (A)
Holmwood started strong against a feisty South Lee team. The pitch, narrower than the boys were used to, led to a more physical match with few opportunities to move the ball wide.
The first half was clearly won by the Holmwood XIII with three tries before the break. The first a well worked move and consistent pressure led to Nicholas R-P scoring within the first ten minutes.
South Lee began a counter-attack but a stolen ball from the forwards allowed the Holmwood backs to make ground up the pitch with an opening for Alisdair M to break through and score under the posts. (12 – 0)
With South Lee putting Holmwood under more and more pressure from big runners in the centre, Holmwood found themselves camped in their own 22. Great dynamic mauling and rucking from the forwards again led to a turn over with Mikey C and Xen M linking well to score from their own line!
In the second half, Holmwood found themselves under constant pressure and despite probing runs from many, were unable to convert this into points. With structure from both teams diminishing, South Lee found some momentum and despite big tackles from many, managed to gain a score back.
A physical competition with Holmwood deserved coming out on top. Well Done.
