Soccer - U9 A VII vs South Lee

It is amazing what a 50 minutes coach journey can do to a group of Year 4 boys. The first half saw the boys play up the slope and on a small pitch this did not help their sluggish start. The boys were second to the ball for the majority of the half and Holmwood's normal passing styles eluded them. South Lee scored two goals during the first half at it could have been more.

The second half was a different story. I would like to say it was the inspirational team talk that shock the boys into action but in all truths the slope was the real factor. After a bizarre goal kick incident ( ask Mr Chapman! ) Holmwood started two wake up. The first goal was scored thanks to the goal poaching skills of Luca C. Gus S kept Holmwood in the game with a couple of good blocks to deny the South Lee attackers.  It was the only member of the squad who had not scored so far this term who popped up with a long range effort that eluded the South Lee keeper to put Holmwood on level terms. Great strike Archie L. South Lee missed an open goal in the final few minutes and this spurned opportunity was capitalised on when Archie L's long range free kick fell into the path of Rafe C who slammed the ball into the roof of the net to spark wild celebrations. Holwood hung on to grab a last gasp victory.
Final Score
Holwood 3 South Lee 2
Well done to all of the boys involved in the A team this term. I have very much enjoyed taking you for your Games sessions and matches,  the improvement you have made this term is down to your hard work and desire to improve. Well done.
