Rugby - U9 A VII vs Littlegarth

On a bright and windy afternoon at Littlegarth the teams lined up on pitches smaller than Holmwood were used to.

There were four teams present. In the first game against Orwell Park the tackling and line speed in defence was outstanding. Unfortunately the slope was too much in the second half and Orwell won in the closing minutes with a final try. Final score 15 - 20.

The boys were on a high from their last performance and dominating the tackles. They went into this game with a must win attitude and a true belief that they chad to get more points on the board. They were dominant in all aspects of the game. Final score 25 - 10.

The third game would decide whether we went into the final or not. The players were motivated and wanted another chance to play Orwell Park. They started the game playing up the hill and the straight line running in attack meant they were soon ahead. A few missed tackles from Holmwood allowed Littlegarth the equal the score. In the second half the Holmwood player stepped up the physicality in the tackles and should have made more of the opportunities they had with the ball. Final score 20 - 15.

The final was against Orwell Park who had not been beaten all day. This was one of the most physical games of rugby that I have seen at this age group. The tackling was outstanding from both teams, Holmwood had the edge going into half time and made an early score in the second half. The down hill slope was too much and Orwell managed to score a couple of unanswered tries. Final score 15 - 20.

A truly outstanding effort by the players. The determination to win the tackle situation and the want to drive forward with the ball was fantastic to watch.
