Girls' U11 Kwik Cricket Festival
Holmwood hosted their annual U11 Kwik Cricket Tournament on Thursday 15 June.
Holmwood's A team made a good start to the day by beating The Abbey relatively easily. Poppy DR scored 17 runs and was then retired. The team reached 64 in their 6 overs, with The Abbey struggling to reach 50.
Holmwood A team had to play a 'make-shift' Holmwood B team when another team failed to arrive. In the Bs, Margot F top scored with 11 runs in their total of 32 runs. In reply, the A team reached this target with 3 overs to spare. Sophie D retired on 15 runs and Emily B hit a 4 and four singles.
As winners of their league, Holmwood A went on to play Stephen Perse Foundation in the final. Holmwood lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Poppy DR retired on 19 runs, hitting a six in the third over. As number four bat, Emily b came in and also hit a 6 in her innings of 17 runs. Holmwood made 61 runs.
Poppy DR bowled a faulty safe first over, and Emily B gave away 12 runs, but the Stephen Perse Foundation girls started hitting out, also scoring a 6. They were 39 runs off 3 overs. A brilliant over by Ilayda H (1 wicket for 5 runs) allowed Holmwood to think they might win, but another 6 was hit and the opposition reached the target of 62 runs with just over 2 balls remaining.
Silver medals for the Holmwood A team!
