Girls' Hockey - U11 A VII vs Littlegarth

The girls played their first game of the season away at Littlegarth's. The girls moved forward in numbers and managed to get most of their shots on target. They matched Littlegarth'ss strength and intensity and ended a strong first half display leading 2-2. They defended well as a team by marking Littlegarth's attackers closely. More goals from Poppy DR, Martha H and Imogen J won our first game of the season 5-3.

Girls' Hockey - U11 C VII vs Littlegarth

This fixture was a training match played without Goalkeepers for the purposes of working on skills and positioning.

The Holmwood girls played extremely well from the outset considering we were only a week into the hockey season.  Flora D played consistently for the whole match as Centre Half, one of the key positions on the pitch, and passed the ball accurately to open up the play each time she received the ball.  Her distribution to the Wings, Isobel B and Olivia R showed just what a natural she is in this position.

Keira W, Maia A and Alexandra M in defence were solid for all the four quarters and made many strong tackles to win possession of the ball.  As the match progressed their confidence grew and they were soon attempting to pass the ball out to the wings as opposed to down the middle of the pitch.  This meant we could get the ball out of our defensive half much easier meaning our Forwards had much to do!

The Forwards, Olivia, Isobel and Clara M had much of the ball during the match and each of them made many strong runs on the goal.  Clara showed great determination and never gave up on a ball, repeatedly running back when we lost possession to put in a tackle.  Olivia also impressed making many strong runs down the wing before crossing the ball towards the goal.  Isobel, playing on the left, had a very competent game and worked well with Clara as centre forward.

Final score 9 - 6 to Holmwood
