Girls' Hockey - U11 A VII vs OBH

The girls started off the game seeming a bit rusty, but strong defending from Sarah E and Julia K and some good saves from Emily B kept them in the game. Poppy DR scored a brilliant individual goal and finished off another team effort, to leave the score at 2-1 at half time. The girls continued to fly forward in numbers and work back together to defend their lead. Imogen J finished off another great team goal, resulting in the girls winning the game 3-1.

Girls' Hockey - U11 B VII vs OBH

Fielding a large squad of 11 players, all the girls were required to play various positions during the course of the match.  This proved just how versatile they are becoming on the pitch which is a very positive sign.

Playing 3 "thirds", rolling subs were used meaning all of the girls had to stay focused during the match regardless of whether they were watching from the side line or playing.

In the first third Georgie C and Maia A both played well in defence and showed good accuracy passing the ball to Flora D in the Centre Half position.  On the forward line were Sophie H, Clara M and Olivia R and this combination proved a good combination as it was a very attacking third.

Strong tackling from all the girls as well as some good runs on the ball up the wing resulted in a well deserved goal with Clara providing the final hit passed the goal keeper.

After the goal the defence swapped with Holly S and Alexandra M and the wings were replaced by Keira W and Isobel B. We continued to have the run of play and continued to pressure the opposition.

In the second third we saw the benefits of passing wide rather than passing down the middle of the pitch all the time.  As a result the girls had to hold their positions better to ensure they received the ball.  Tbis resulted in some very fluid play and Zara M in goal had a very easy third!!  Clara again capitalised on a strong run down the wing from Keira and put the ball in the back of the goal.

The final third saw OBH up their game, but we continued to put the tackles in and never gave up on the ball.  But tired legs meant Zara had to work hard in goal and despite clearing the ball many times, one eventually hit the back board.

Well done to all the girls; in the space of only three weeks the improvement in your skills and teamwork has been remarkable!

Final score 3 - 2 to Holmwood
