Girls' Hockey - U13 1st VII at OBH Tournament

Wow what a fantastic but exhausting day! The girls arrived at the Tournament with great expectations and enthusiasm. Our first game against Barnardiston Hall was much closer than I would have liked with inaccurate shooting and errors in defence. Maisy H's goal in the last few minutes was a welcome relief. Against South Lee we began to find our stride and Hollie, Misha and Maisy managed to find the target although it was disappointing to allow South Lee to score one. Another victory against Finborough, thanks to Hollie and Kaela and then we were to face the only team between us and the trophy.

St.Johns were a well disciplined side playing simple and effective hockey and for once our defence were not up to the task. Kaela S came back to help and cut off their main attack but with only 4 minutes to go we were 2-0 down and feeling desperate. This is when the girls really stepped up and a goal from Maisy was soon followed by a stunning shot from Hollie to equalise the game. With only OBH A and B teams left to play we felt quietly confident but tiredness was setting in and it seemed to take an age before Hollie led us to a 1-0 win over the A team. The B team game was a relaxing way to finish and a chance to give the defenders a go up front with Freya scoring her first goal of the season along with Kaela, Misha and Hollie.

A well deserved victory over 5 different schools and 72 minutes of hockey with no substitutions. I was a very proud and exhausted coach by Saturday evening!
