Girls' Hockey - U13 1st VII Essex Championships at Redbridge

A really great display of hockey against strong opposition. Firstly we played Cooper Coborn and won 3-0 with excellent goals from Hollie DR, Maisy H and Alara H. A confident start which should have enabled us to play better against the overall winners, Felsted. Unfortunately after conceding a goal in the first few seconds, the girls never found their stride and lost 4-0 in a game well below their ability. A close game against Chigwell with a well struck short corner from Hollie DR was great to watch with lots of attacking runs and strong defending from Kaela S and Freya J.

The last of the group games was against Forest, a well drilled and strong team. We lost 2-0 despite some strong saves from Charlotte H. This put us out of medal contention but we had the opportunity to go out on a high with a positions match against Newhall. Having gone 1-0 down in the first few minutes it was really impressive to see such drive at the end of a long day and with a goal each from Hollie and Maisy and some strong attacking play from Phoebe RL it was a thoroughly well deserved win.

Our final result was 5th out of 10 teams and, as has become the norm this term, the girls conducted themselves with great maturity and camaraderie.

Girls' Hockey - U11 A VII Essex Championships at Redbridge

Huge congratulations to Holmwood U11 Girls for reaching second place in the Essex hockey championships yesterday. The team will represent Essex at the East of England Tournament. The team scored 11 goals during the day’s matches. These were shared between Poppy, Imogen and Martha. They conceded only two in the entire competition, both in the final game against Felsted, which ended 2-1. It was in this final game that Mrs Goldring and Mrs Spencer were able to see
how much the team had learned and improved throughout the day. Sarah and Dominique were marking their players, Emily made some excellent saves, Sophie was strong on the wing, Martha, Imogen and Poppy demonstrated some really mature passing and scored some great goals. It was a pleasure to spend time with this lovely group of girls at the competition. Well done for your commitment and team work!

Mrs Spencer
