match report

Rugby - U9 A at Orwell Park Triangular

This was the first time some of the Holmwood House pupils had been invited to an away fixture. At this stage I would like to mention that the players behaviour and sportsmanship on and off the field was exemplary. It was a pleasure to take such a polite group of young men to another school.

The format was three short games, resulting in each team playing a maximum 40 minutes of contact rugby.

Holmwood v South Lee Holmwood 15 - 10 South Lee

This was the first time the players had played contact rugby in a competitive situation. The team demonstrated some good raw talent and some passages of play showed good promise. The players, understandably, do not know how each other play yet or where the support will be. However, this is a skill that the boys will develop over the next 4 years playing together.

Holmwood v Fram Prep Holmwood 15 - 15 Fram Prep

The boys were straight on the pitch and the mood within the team was positive with multiple players wanted to carry the ball. In defence it was good to see players stepping up to make tackles.

Holmwood v Orwell Park Holmwood 45 - 5 Orwell Park

Holmwood walked onto the pitch with their heads held high and the a feeling of competition within the team. From the first whistle the Holmwood boys wanted to take the on the challenge of winning the tackle area. This was a culmination of excellent defence, good line choice in attack and support from all members of the team.

It was an afternoon of plenty of rugby and the most rewarding thing as a coach was watching the boys put the skills we have learnt in training into a match scenario. Well done to the boys involved. There is a long road ahead of us as a team, but with hard work and a continued intensity during training then I am sure this group of boys will be one to watch in the near future!

Rugby - U9 B at Orwell Park Triangular

Holmwood travelled to Orwell park for their first fixture this term. Although cold and windy Holmwood started very well. All players taking bits from training into the matches.

In all the matches Holmwood worked brilliantly in defence with the opposition struggling to find holes. A brilliant start to the season, which the boys should be proud of.

Rest will be needed ready for the next match…tomorrow.
