As we look forward to the September Produce Show, it is time to get preparing those vegetable beds if you haven't already started. Over the next fortnight, pupils will be involved in making sure the beds used last year for planting are ready for planting this year and ensuring that the good spread of manure laid on over half term has been dug in thoroughly to help prepare the soil. Then the planting will begin! The gardeners from last year will remember that we planted some garlic bulbs which are now springing up and will hopefully yield enough garlic to keep us in garlic bread for a while!
And the competition is on! Mr Cook, Mr White, Dr Ashwell, Mrs Mitchell and Miss Godman are all competing to beat the size of Mr Cook's prize-winning marrow last year, using seeds obtained from a prize winning strain. Watch this space for updates throughout the year.
Don't forget to start thinking about what you want to grow for this year's Produce Show and get planting. Remember, you are not defeated if you don't have a vegetable garden - many things can be grown in a patio pot or in other imaginative tubs. Don't forget to send in any photos as you grow this season, we'd love to include them in the newsletter and magazine!
