U11 Soccer Tournament

Holmwood win U11 Soccer Tournament at Orwell Park for second consecutive year!

On Saturday 13 March 2010 The Colts A football team set off in convoy to Orwell Park School to defend their title. The tournament is run on a round robin basis with each school playing each other once in 12 minute matches with no half time. 6 schools participated including Holmwood. Arriving later than expected, Holmwood had a quick warm-up and were soon into their stride without B Allison who unfortunately was out injured. The first opposition was Littlegarth, in defence H Staines and R Parry settled in and played a superb ball to E O’Donnell down the left whose cross was met by  W Eradiri, making it 1-0 to Holmwood inside the first 5 mins - a brilliant start! Holmwood kept their lead late into the game and added a final goal from O Overton who got the final touch from S Holland’s strike from just inside the area.
Final score:  Won 2-0

On the same pitch Holmwood's next opponents were St Joseph's (with just about time to take on some fluids and debrief). F Cock stepped in for the injured B Allison and soon found himself involved chasing down the St Joseph's defence.  He produced a fine shot which rebounded off the keeper only as far as W Eradiri to tap home a goal -  1-0 to Holmwood.  St Joseph's battled well, giving P Carlstroem some work to do, but Holmwood sealed their second victory from a brilliant single effort from W Eradiri after he latched onto a through ball from S Holland, beating three players and smashing the ball home!  E O’Donnell came close towards the end, but was denied by the St Joseph's keeper.
Final score:  Won 2-0

Moving pitches, Holmwood faced the tournament's hosts, Orwell's A Team!  Luck was on Holmwood’s side; P Carlstroem had a brilliant game making two well timed saves and keeping Holmwood's winning streak intact. The combination of Holland and Eradiri produced the only goal of the game, but the whole team's efforts must not go unmentioned  - a brilliant, gritty performance!
Final score:  Won 1-0

In confident mood, moving pitches again, Holmwood’s fourth game was against the host B team. Holmwood played as well as in their previous games and were awarded a corner; taken by Holland with O’Donnell arriving just on time to head clear of Orwell’s keeper! Passing well though the team, Holland and Eradiri came up with 3 more goals between them. Final score:  Won 4-0

The final game against Ipswich Prep proved to be Holmwood's toughest test - a win was needed as Ipswich had also won all their games!  Ipswich Prep soon put Holmwood under pressure, but Parry and Staines were like sponges,  soaking it all up. As the game progressed Holland soon found Overton and O’Donnell, but chances came and went. Holmwood needed the win, but time was running out.  Then O’Donnell broke free on the left and his shot produced a great block from the keeper, but Eradiri was in the right place to drill home the winning goal from 5 yards to the delight of all the Holmwood parents, Eradiri and the team!
Final score:  Won 1-0

Holmwood managed to win all their matches and the tournament!   Well played boys - a brilliant afternoon's football with no games lost or goals conceded. After match tea, Holmwood return with the cup for the second year running.

Finally, a BIG thank you to all parents for their support on the day.
