Naples Trip 2016
Pupils' Trip Reports
The Naples trip was the best trip I have ever been on. We got to go to the top of Vesuvius and saw the epic views. Also we got to see the Blue Grotto. The water was a brilliant blue because the light came up through the bottom of the cave. In Herculaneum we saw real Roman stairs! Pompeii is a lot bigger than it looks - we only explored a quarter of it!

When we reached the top of Vesuvius, the view was incredible. We had the same tour guide for both volcanoes who was really interesting and told us all about them. The Blue Grotto in Capri was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. When we were walking around Pompeii there was so much to see, we could hardly keep up. Herculaneum was 30 metres down because of all the lava that had hardened.

We went to Solfatara, it stank of rotten eggs and when we threw a rock on the floor it made a hollow sound. I loved waiting for the train and waving to the buses and lorries that went past - especially those that honked. I found the Piscina Mirabilis fascinating - how the romans could have designed and built something that big and perfect. I never knew that archaeologists would actually sift through 700 bags of sewage! I loved walking through Pompeii and comparing the new town with the old. The whole trip was amazing!

Our first meal was a traditional italian meal, with a starter of pasta which we all thought was the main course. We then had delicious chicken and potatoes. Margherita Pizza was invented in 1889 when Queen Margherita had 3 pizzas designed for her and she had to choose one. She chose the one with tomato for the red, cheese for the white and basil for the green of the Italian flag. Neapolitan pizza is different because it has a thin base which is often soggy with the thick and sloppy topping. It is supposed to be eaten with a knife and fork. I learnt that poor Romans ate out and rich Romans ate at home because they could afford a kitchen and a cook! The trip was scrumptious.
