Outdoor Learning - Spring term
For Year 2 children a focus on Outdoor Learning provided opportunities for some simple orienteering using a map and compass around the school grounds. At each point on the map children were faced with challenges connecting them to nature such as cloud identification, measuring air temperature and comparing deciduous and evergreen trees.
Despite the challenges all the children worked really well in their small groups, showing lots of resilience and reasoning to complete their tasks.
This week Outdoor Learning has seen Year 3 children turn their hand to charcoal drawings of the winter trees around the school grounds. With some very artistic results the children explored the wooded area at the back of the sports field where they created sound drawings and played predator play games to warm up. With a brief moment of relaxation and contemplation towards the end of the session they enjoyed the experience of a sit spot.
