U11 Cricket Festival Winners!

Cricket - U11 "6-a-side" Tournament at Orwell Park (A) Saturday 7 June 2014

The Festival comprised of the six schools playing a round robin event.

Holmwood's first match was against The Abbey.  Excellent batting from Ollie A, Ali M and Callum O, together with a sprinkling of extras meant that The Abbey were set 67 to win from their 5 overs.  Holmwood's excellent bowling, with Cameron S and Charlie A being very accurate, ensured that Holmwood won by 49 runs.

The second match was against a very able Barnardiston Hall side who batted first and scored 46 runs.  Ollie S was the pick of the bowlers.  With Ollie A being stumped out in the second over, Holmwood's chances of victory looked slim but Ali M and Callum O remained very calm and managed to pass their total with only 2 balls left.  Boosted by this the boys went into their third game which was against an also unbeaten Ipswich School side.

Callum O and Ali M batted well against Ipswich but the star was Charlie A who retired after scoring some valuable boundaries.  A score of 52 appeared comfortable when Ollie A claimed 2 wickets in his first over to set back Ipswich and, with 1 over to go, they still needed 17 to win with Cameron S to bowl.  Three successive 4s, a dot ball and a 2 meant only 4 runs were needed from the final ball.  However, Cameron held his nerve and, with Josh N who kept wicket excellently all day, throwing down the stumps and Holmwood won a tight game by 2 runs.

Hosts, Orwell Park were Holmwood's next opponents and the boys knew that, if they beat the host team, they would win the Festival with a game to spare!  Once again Ollie A failed to score but with Ali M, Callum O and Charlie A supplying a total of 54, it looked a good score.  Ollie A bowled another brilliant over and was supported well by Callum O, Ali M, Charlie A and Ollie S as Orwell fell well short scoring only 19.

As winners, Holmwood's last game was against local rivals Littlegarth.  The boys did not let up and scored another very competitive 52 runs.  Littlegarth never looked as though they would challenge this total and this proved to be the case as Holmwood won easily to finish with a record of played five, won five and run out the worthy winners.

All seven boys played excellent cricket in great spirit.  Well done boys  - a great day out at Orwell Park!
