U11 Cricketers win again!

Cricket - U11 A VIII Tournament at Framlingham (A), Friday 13 June 2014

The U11 A team travelled to Framlingham on a hot and sunny day to attend their annual 8-a-side tournament.  The tournament consisted of 8 teams.  A qualifying round would be played to determine who would enter the Cup (the winners) and the rest played in the Plate competition.  Each match would consist of eight 6 ball overs.  Players would retire on 25 but could continue to bat if the rest of their team had got out.

Match 1:  (Qualifying Round) vs Widford Lodge
Josh N won the toss and elected to bat.  Holmwood made a good start with14 coming from the first over.  Holmwood then lost 2 wickets in the second, Oliver A for 5 and William W run out.  Finn J scored 5  and Charlie A supported Callum O who retired on 26. Charlie A scored 15 which included a big 6 over deep square leg.  Josh N hit 2 fours before being bowled for 8. Johnny A finished on 8 not out and Oliver S was 3 not out.

Total 76 for 5

Holmwood bowled well and Oliver A removed the opener and Number 3 batsman in the first over to put Holmwood in a strong position.  Holmwood did not get any more wickets but bowled well to restrict Widford Lodge to 54.

Result: Holmwood won by 22 runs

Match 2:  (Cup Semi-final) vs The Abbey

Josh N again won the toss and elected to bat.  Holmwood again batted well and Callum O retired for a second time. The only wicket to fall was Oliver A for 5.  William W  finished 19 not out and Finn J finished 20 not out. The Abbey bowled a number of extras which helped Holmwood's toal over the 100 mark.

Total 102 for 1

The Abbey started well and their opening batsman retired. Holmwood's bowling was too strong and the good line and length bowled denied The Abbey batsmen many chances to score.   Wickets came from Oliver A (1) and William W (2).  The Abbey finished on 62 for 3.

Result: Holmwood won by 40 runs

Match 3:  (The Final)  vs Town Close

Holmwood won the toss and stuck with the tried and tested formula of batting first.  Oliver A and Callum O batted well and got Holmwood’s total up to 44 from 2.3 over before Callum O was bowled for 14.  Oliver A continued to bat well and retired on 25. William contributed with 9 before being bowled. Finn J hit 5 fours and retired on 26. Charlie A and J Nunn hit some vital boundaries towards the end of the innings and both finished not out. Charlie A finished on 11 and Josh N on 8.

Total 99 for 2

Holmwood knew a few tight overs would be enough to win it.  Oliver A bowled the first a little too short and it went for 15.  After 3 overs, Town close were up with the rate but William W’s second over went for only 4 which swung the match back into holmwood's favour.  The next over was bowled by Callum O and again it went for only 4 runs. This meant that Town Close needed 54 to win from the final 3 overs.  Oliver S bowled an excellent line and length in his two overs and only went for 13 runs. Town Close finished on 69 for 3.

Result : Holmwood won by 30 runs

Team : Josh N (C), Oliver A, Callum O, William W, Charlie A, Finn J, Johnny A and Oliver S
