Cricket tournament at new hall

Cricket - U12 A XI Tournament at New Hall (A), Saturday 21 May 2011

The Holmwood U12 team went to New Hall for a 20/20 tournament in which we played two matches.  Our first game was against KEGS.  Sam H tossed up and lost.  KEGS elected to bowl.  Ben A and Harrison S opened the batting.  Unfortunately, they were both out early on which brought Sam H and James P to the wicket.  Sam H anchored the innings with a fine 62* and was given good support by both James P and Oliver H.

Holmwood then came in to bowl with Ben A getting 2 early wickets which put Holmwood in control.  KEGS then built a good partnership but, once their captained passed 50, he put one in the air off the bowling of Oliver B and Fergus C took a match winning catch.  After that, good bowling by Oliver H, Eddie G and Harry E restricted the scoring and eventually KEGS finished on 117 for 7, meaning Holmwood were through to the final!

We played New Hall in the final and we elected to bat.  Unfortunately, we lost early wickets but James P and Philipp C batted very well and got us to a respectable 97.  We then went in to bowl, but we could not get a wicket until Ben S came in to bowl.  He bowled a maiden in his first over and got a wicket in his second.  When James P was bowling, Robert P took a fantastic catch, but it was given as a no ball which we thought was a harsh decision.  New Hall managed to reach their target with an over to spare.  Sam H was named Player of the Tournament, but it was a great all round effort by the team.  Well done everyone - keep up the good work!
