Year 8 Trip to Aylmerton
At 5.15pm on Friday 7 September, Year 8 children set out on a teambuilding course run by Aylmerton Field Study Centre in Norfolk. After a pleasant journey, taking in the wonderful Norfolk countryside, we arrived at the centre at 7.30pm. The children quickly acclimatised to their new surroundings and, after a filling dinner, embarked on a twilight treasure hunt within the grounds of Felbrigg Hall.
On Saturday morning, we visited the seals at the tip of Blakeney Point – an excellent example of a coastal Spit. The afternoon was spent discovering the unique ecology and geography of this world famous feature. We learned a great deal from our guides for the day, ‘The Miah Man’ and ‘Eagle Eye’. On returning to the centre the children were treated to a barbecue, followed by a disco. The children entered into the spirit of the event and danced non-stop for two and a half hours! A quiet night was had by all.
On the following day we remained on site. The children were split into groups and given a variety of teambuilding exercises to complete, including rope running, building a monsoon shelter (rain supplied by the staff!) and collecting pirate treasure. All the children performed admirably in their tasks, encouraging their peers throughout with little prompting by staff.
All too soon it was time to leave. The children threw themselves wholeheartedly into every activity and behaved impeccably throughout our stay. They were a credit to themselves, their parents and the school. Well done!
