  • Friday 23 March 2018 Boarding News - Spring term week 10 On Wednesday evening, the Year 8 Boarders enjoyed a Murder Mystery Evening as part of a national 'Whodunnit' campaign in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care. The scene was a cruise ship in the 1920s and the ships' doctor had been murdered. Each of the Year 8s was assigned a character and there was much dressing up and getting into role.
  • Friday 23 March 2018 Year 1 - Let's Go To The Arctic Year 1 have had an exciting term exploring our new Geography topic, 'Let's go to the Arctic'. The children have been immersed in all sorts of activities and have thoroughly enjoyed finding out about this amazing part of the world.
  • Friday 23 March 2018 Year 1 - STEM Activities On Monday Year 1 took part in a series of STEM activities. We worked in small groups. The task was to test a set of materials to find one that would be suitable for a sandpit cover that would both block out the sun and be waterproof. In addition we had to use our maths skills to find the area of a square, long narrow rectangle and short wide rectangle.
  • Friday 23 March 2018 Science As part of their topic on space our Year 4 pupils were treated to a very special talk from Mr John Vickers. He had a high altitude pressure suit on loan from the National Space Centre in Leicester and was keen to share the exhibit with our students.
  • Friday 23 March 2018 'Have Your Say' Holmwood were represented on Monday at the annual "Have your say" competition organised by the Association for Language Learning.

  • Wednesday 21 March 2018 Girls' Cricket Congratulations to the U13 Girls' Cricket team for winning the county U13 Lady Taverners Finals.
  • Monday 19 March 2018 Year 1 - Sharing Assembly Year 1 enjoyed showing their work and talking about what we had learned about the Arctic to parents and pre-prep last week. We have liked finding out about the animals that live there and painting pictures of them. We worked as a team to help to make our corridor display.
  • Monday 19 March 2018 Outdoor Learning - Year 3 The Year 3 children have been carrying out some math work during their Outdoor Learning sessions over the last few weeks. They returned to the Spinney to record growth data of the Wildlife Hedge they helped to plant last year.
  • Monday 19 March 2018 Prep Diary Competition Congratulations to the winners of the Prep Diary Competition. As ever, the entries were excellent so well done to those who sent in the entries.

  • Monday 12 March 2018 European Rugby Championship Cup We were lucky enough to host the actual European Rugby Championship Cup at school today.

  • Monday 12 March 2018 Sport Relief On Thursday 22 March, Holmwood will be 'Swmming the Channel' in aid of Sport Relief, in all 22 miles, 35405.6 metres or 2623 lengths!
  • Monday 12 March 2018 Science Year 6 have been making bread rolls as part of their work on useful microbes and yeast.
  • Monday 12 March 2018 Forest School The children in Year 1 were invited to take part in a poster competition. They were to be designed for display at two new Stag Beetle Hotels recently set up in the Spinney during Forest School.
  • Monday 26 February 2018 Boarding News - Spring term week 6 On Wednesday evening, the Year 8 Boarders had their own 'Pancake Day'. They tried 3 different types of pancake recipe; traditional, American and banana.
  • Monday 26 February 2018 Year 1 - Super Heroes Last week Year 1 read Superworm by Julia Donaldson. We really enjoyed reading about a hero and this made us think of all the superheroes at Holmwood. We went on a visit to meet them.
  • Monday 26 February 2018 History DJ M worked on a history project at home creating a model of Stonehenge, a timeline poster including replicas of arrow heads and axes, a pottery bowl with utensils and an interpretation of a cave painting using his hand.
  • Monday 26 February 2018 Languages News Over the course of the last half term, Year 8 have been studying Roman technology as part of their HH Certificate.
  • Monday 26 February 2018 Year 8 Scholarships We are delighted to announce some recent Year 8 scholarship awards.
  • Tuesday 20 February 2018 Year 2 Art and Sharing Assembly In Art this week, Year 2 had their first experience of using ?Modroc?. We used it to create some stunning winter tree sculptures. Also, it is always a special occasion when we are able to share our learning and achievements. On Thursday 1 February, Year 2 held their sharing assembly to their parents.
  • Tuesday 20 February 2018 Boarding News - Week 5 This week Year 8 completed a topic on law and justice in PSHCE. As well as writing and acting out mock trials the children have been lucky enough to have solicitor, Mr Church (Wednesday 31 January) and policeman, Mr Dias (Wednesday 7 February) present talks to them about their roles within the system
  • Tuesday 20 February 2018 Times Table Challenge An exciting final round on Tuesday with every year group from the Prep school represented. Alexandra M from Year 5 won the semi final with no mistakes and 14 children were invited back to the Headmaster's final.
  • Monday 5 February 2018 Boarding - Harry Potter Theme Night 42 pupils enjoyed the second annual Harry Potter Night at Holmwood on Thursday night. We had many witches and wizards in our midst, all of whom completed the Harry Potter quiz - results to be announced next week, and then settled down to watch ?Fantastic Beasts? in the Jubilee Hall with hot dogs and popcorn.
  • Monday 5 February 2018 Geography - Year 6 All the pupils in Year 6 have been investigating tectonic plate boundaries; these are boundaries between the massive plates which make up the Earth?s crust. The pupils worked in groups - each group was assigned one type of boundary to investigate. There are four different boundary types: Constructive (Divergent), Destructive (Convergent), Conservative (Transform) and Collision (Continental Collision).
  • Monday 5 February 2018 Outdoor Learning - Year 3 Year 3 have been looking closely at winter trees in their outdoor learning sessions.
  • Monday 5 February 2018 Pupil News - Week 4 The Holmwood House Riding Team excelled themselves again at the weekend.
  • Thursday 1 February 2018 Burns' Night 2018 As part of our geography topic Year 2 had an exciting Burns celebration on Wednesday. Mr Mitchell came dressed in his kilt and addressed the haggis before we all had a taste with neeps and tatties. Year 8 also celebration with a traditional dinner and dancing.
