  • Tuesday 25 June 2019 From the Headmaster.... Last week's Summer Fête was a real triumph! Not in terms of fund-raising. Not in terms of foot-fall. Not in terms of the weather. It was a huge success because of the wonderful Holmwood spirit that was evident throughout the morning.
  • Monday 17 June 2019 From the Headmaster.... I have spent the day on Barbour's Piece enjoying a wonderful Pre-Prep Sports Day. Whilst the sun graced us with its presence on occasion, it was not the most summery of days but this did not dint the enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship of our budding sportsmen and women from Nursery through to Year 3!
  • Monday 10 June 2019 From the Headmaster.... We waved the Year 4s off this morning on their overnight trip to France and the Year 8s left later for Thorpe Park to mark the end of their exams. Upon their return, the Year 8s will embark on their 3 Challenge Weeks where they compete for the Hills Challenge Cup including Holmwood Bake Off, Dragons' Den, Bridge Building and the £50 Challenge amongst a range of other adventures and challenges. Following that, they will be off on their PGL trip to Shropshire.
  • Tuesday 4 June 2019 From the Headmaster.... How did we get to half term so quickly? The sun is out and the bank holiday weekend weather is looking ok, so enjoy some lovely time with your children and we look forward to seeing everyone in June when we will enjoy the annual range of Holmwood summer events.
  • Friday 17 May 2019 From the Headmaster.... I have been in Cambridge today at the summer IAPS Heads’ meeting. Membership of IAPS is an important facet of Holmwood House giving it a wider context in which to operate. As Chairman for the past 4 years I have had the honour of leading and working with a wide range of Prep School Heads. Understanding and supporting a variety of school settings has been a rewarding opportunity. Holmwood’s involvement in a number of IAPS events throughout the year adds to the rich experience for our children.

  • Monday 25 March 2019 From the Headmaster.... I am extremely excited about attending tonight's performance of Madagascar! The Years 6 & 7 have been working hard under Mrs Mayhews' direction to produce what promises to be a thrilling production. Supported by the professional band - Mr Cortes, Mr Snell and Mrs Mitchell - we are in for a treat!
  • Tuesday 19 March 2019 From the Headmaster.... It was good to see that the rain and wind did not deter prospective parents from visiting the school for Open Morning earlier today. We had a very good number of visitors who were expertly guided around the facilities by our tour guides from Years 5, 6, and 8 . My thanks to them for being super ambassadors for the school. Their insight and enthusiasm was great.
  • Monday 11 March 2019 From the Headmaster.... As I don my wellies and make my way out to the field to enjoy the Year 3s' flagship sporting fixture of the year, the Tag Rugby and Netball Festival, I am reminded of the busy and varied nature of our children's lives. This afternoon, most of the rest of the school will enjoy a preview performance of the Years 4 and 5 neolithic extravaganza, Rock Bottom, ahead of the main performance this evening to which I hope you are coming. Mrs Mayhew, Mr Cortes and their team have worked tirelessly this week to bring this show to the stage and we wish them all very well tonight. Break a leg!

  • Saturday 9 February 2019 From the Headmaster... Our Year 4 children had a great time at the Young Voices event at the O2 Arena on Monday. They sang with great gusto, I am told, and reports from parents point to it having been an excellent experience for all! Well done Year 4s and thank you to Mr Cortes for organising it and leading the trip along with Mr Snell, Mrs Mitchell and Miss Godman.
  • Tuesday 5 February 2019 Supporting children in the early years of education Having secured a place in the school of their choice, parents can support children's learning in a wide range of ways.

  • Friday 23 November 2018 From the Headmaster.... We have seen some really good focus from our senior pupils this week as they have either been involved in Year 7 and 8 assessments or preparing to be. It is great to see the older pupils act as role models for our younger children and I know the Buddy system is much valued by all the children both young and older.  Our Year 6s are enjoying their first visit to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London to watch Much Ado About Nothing.  The pupils' response to their Shakespeare studies has been really encouraging and I am delighted that this important feature of our national literacy archive is being shared so expertly with the children in the Prep school.
