  • Friday 17 January 2020 Year 4 Trip to Ipswich Museum Last Thursday Year 4 travelled to Ipswich Museum to get some hands on experience of the Egyptians. They explored the Egyptian gallery finding out how the Egyptians lived, what they wore, the gods they worshipped and their farming methods
  • Friday 17 January 2020 Pupil News Lexden orange ball team played a match on Saturday against Earls Colne. Lexden won 18-6. Team consisted of Herbert B-P, Hamish D, Anthony K and Annabel B.

  • Friday 13 December 2019 Boarding News Christmas arts and crafts were the order of the day on Monday with some beautiful creations. It was Zac's last night in Boarding on Monday and Norm in the Dorm was particularly naughty, hiding in all sorts of places. Zac had to resort to a sniffer dog to help find him!

  • Friday 13 December 2019 Question Time - Election Special With Mr Mitchell playing the part of Fiona Bruce and Hamish A, Harry H, Isaac H, Angus M and Tommy T taking on the roles of expert political pundits, Holmwood hosted a Question Time Election Special in the Jubilee Hall on Monday.

  • Friday 13 December 2019 French Year 4 are very excited about sending Christmas cards to the children at the French School we will be visiting on our trip in June. They really enjoyed writing their Christmas messages and the cards are now on their way to France!

  • Friday 13 December 2019 Pupil News This weekend, Holmwood’s Equestrian Team competed in the NSEA Inter-schools East of England Showjumping Final at Topthorn, Stowmarket.

  • Monday 9 December 2019 School Council News We had our first ever school council meeting today with representatives from Years 1, 2 and 3. We discussed ideas about playground equipment, snacks, uniform and the 5Rs that each rep had brought from their classes.
  • Monday 9 December 2019 Boarding News We have had a lovely Christmassy week in boarding. As is traditional, the boarders decorated the tree in the front hall. There was much hilarity, particularly as we introduced 'Norm' We don't have Elf on the Shelf in boarding - we have Norm in the Dorm!
  • Monday 9 December 2019 English & Global Studies We took a walk along the Embankment where we discussed the history of the area in both Elizabethan and more modern times, including a walk across the Millennium bridge and a look at the Tate Modern.
  • Monday 9 December 2019 Citizenship On Tuesday, Year 8 had a fantastic experience at the Houses of Parliament where, unusually, they were able to enter both chambers and the division lobbies, thanks to parliament being closed for next week's general election. The children had some excellent questions during the tour and also took part in a workshop on voting and representation.
  • Monday 9 December 2019 Pre-Prep Community Event On Monday 3 December the Year 3 children hosted the community event in the festively decorated Talbot room. We were joined by the local neighbours, staff from school and parents from the nursery. They were served hot drinks, mince pies and sausage rolls by the children.
  • Monday 9 December 2019 Pupil News On Saturday 30 November, our students at Holmwood House had their first opportunity to take LAMDA exams. These exams are taken to demonstrate acting skills, public speaking skills, musical theatre skills, performing Shakespeare and so much more!
  • Monday 9 December 2019 Nursery News We have had a very exciting week in Poppies this week. We have started our week off by exploring the effects of winter by catching the falling leaves around us and listening to the sounds of the crunching leaves under our feet with the frost that has appeared.

  • Monday 2 December 2019 Pupil Achievements Golden Awards are made weekly to individuals in each class based on the Golden Rules. Under these criteria, the awards are made for the whole term, the child receiving an annotated leaf which is placed on the Golden Tree for all to see. In addition the child receives a Golden Award badge to wear for the week.

  • Monday 2 December 2019 Boarding News It was a chilled week in boarding due to the assessments. Board games and other gentle pursuits were very much appreciated by the boarders!
  • Monday 2 December 2019 Boarding News - Big Night In On Friday 22 November, 56 very excited boarders set sail for the South Pacific Ocean for an evening of culture, fun and entertainment. The evening started with an insight into South Pacific music, with the Fan Dance. The Drum Dance and various other tunes. Pupils loved playing the percussion instruments and the didgeridoo!
  • Monday 2 December 2019 Pre-Prep Christmas Productions It's Christmas time in the Land of Rhyme! A huge thank you and congratulations must go to all our wonderful children in Pre-Reception, Reception and Year One for putting on an incredible performance. Years 2 and 3 put on a nativity play with a contemporary twist! After Mary receives an “angelagram” she shares her wonderful news with her family and Joseph. But how will the couple get to Bethlehem when their car breaks down?...

  • Monday 2 December 2019 Maths - Year 6 6Y were practising how to find the fraction of an amount. They worked really hard and solved the Tarsia puzzle. They had to work in groups where everybody had to give their input.

  • Monday 2 December 2019 Pupil News Zara recently attended a ‘Girls in Jazz’ workshop at the Guildhall School of Music. The workshop was led by jazz singer Claire Martin, and other very talented jazz musicians. It was a wonderful opportunity.
  • Monday 2 December 2019 Nursery News This week Poppies have had fun collecting leaves in the garden to make pictures using them, and Babies enjoyed exploring our sensory water bags and our lock and latch boards.

  • Friday 22 November 2019 Year 1 - Leaf Man Year 1 enjoyed reading Leaf Man by Lois Elhert.  We collected leaves and created our own leaf people and wrote adventure stories for our leaf character.
  • Friday 22 November 2019 English - Year 5 Year 5 have been immersed in the language of Shakespeare this week, hearing it, speaking it and beginning to get a feel for it. Here they are acting selected scenes from The Tempest.
