  • Friday 27 March 2020 Thank You NHS Our children on-site wanted to send a Thank You message to all NHS workers at the current time.
  • Friday 27 March 2020 On-Site We have had some Critical Key Workers’ children on site this week and as well as following their curriculum, they have had lots of fun with various activities, including hat making, balloon modelling, Mr Lesiak’s Tennis Ball Challenge, a ‘distance picnic’ and even tried ‘distance basketball’.
  • Friday 27 March 2020 Year 1 We have received some lovely photos of the children working at home on their maths and having fun with their science experiment on waterproofing and which would be the most useful for making an umbrella.
  • Friday 27 March 2020 Year 2 Pupils in Year 2 have risen extremely well to the challenge of learning in a new way this week. They have read and discussed a spring poem together, written and read favourite parts of their own poems and have enjoyed carrying out some super practical work on capacity both in the kitchen and out in the sun!
  • Friday 27 March 2020 Year 4 - Science and STEM Year 4 pupils were asked to construct a free standing structure which could support a tennis ball as high as possible above the desk, using just 10 sheets of paper and sellotape as part of their studies about the skeleton.

  • Monday 16 March 2020 Element News Air - Last week we started off our Element meeting by giving Maddi her Air hoody! Everyone looked amazing in their costumes on World Book Day and the cellars were looking very colourful.
  • Monday 16 March 2020 Boarding News Years 4, 5 and 6 had a very exciting night on Tuesday with our very own Holmwood House Escape Room challenges. Teams had to solve a challenge to find a code in eight different rooms around the school.
  • Monday 16 March 2020 Year 6 Maths Year 6 has used their knowledge about Algebra to solve the tarsia puzzle. It was a group activity and they enjoyed it thoroughly.
  • Monday 16 March 2020 Sport Relief 2020 Our sponsored swim for Sport Relief concluded during Activities last night but it was our Year 2s who got us to our target of 62 miles to reach our sister Bellevue School in Muswell Hill.

  • Thursday 12 March 2020 World Book Day 2020 World Book Day at Holmwood was a fantastic success this year. We had Cats in Hats; Shirley and Sherlock Holmeses; sneaky Slytherins; Toms a plenty from The Midnight Gang; Katniss Everdene; a plethora of Mr Men; boys in dresses; and even a Hedwig! Both pupils and staff had much fun and there were some truly inspired costumes.

  • Wednesday 4 March 2020 Year 4 Buddies This week Year 4 met with their Reception buddies to interview them in preparation for making them their own non-fiction book. They loved finding out information about all of their interests and hobbies.

  • Wednesday 4 March 2020 Element News We started our latest Element meeting with notices from Rafa and Jasper. Everyone was really excited about half term and were reminded about World Book Day on the 5th and ‘Cops and Robbers’ boarding night on the 2nd. We also had Progress badges for lots of people so well done everyone who was awarded one!
  • Wednesday 4 March 2020 Boarding News On Monday the boarders leapt into the leap year with a number of leap year themed games. 'Fleap Frog' was a huge favourite! Other boarders enjoyed a swim. On Wednesday the Year 8s made pancakes. On Thursday, swimming was once again an option with inflatable races!

  • Wednesday 4 March 2020 Nursery News In Bluebells this week we have enjoyed playing group games, practising our turn-taking, colour recognition, and counting. We loved playing in the snow on Thursday, it was very exciting, just not enough to build a snowman!

  • Monday 17 February 2020 Year 4 - Pyraminds Year 4 have been exploring pyramids this week. They had fun investigating how to build them in different ways and with a variety of mediums with wonderful results.
  • Monday 17 February 2020 Years 4 & 5 Mandarin Years 4 and 5 have been learning about Chinese New Year and some customs and traditions that are part of The Spring Festival.
  • Monday 17 February 2020 Year 5 - Global Studies and English Following a very successful workshop on Beowulf last week and as part of their study of Vikings and Norse mythology, Year 5 were introduced to Wagner's monumental Ring Cycle this week.

  • Monday 17 February 2020 Nursery News Babies loved being outside and exploring. It’s a great way for children to let off some steam and be really active, developing their gross motor skills by walking, running and climbing. There are lots of learning opportunities for them, e.g.encouraging imagination, free choice, freedom of movement and a quest for knowledge about the natural world around them.
  • Monday 17 February 2020 The Perfect Teacher As part of this term's topic on Heroes and Villains, Year 3 have loved studying 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl. We focused on the character Miss Honey. She is a wonderful teacher and a true hero. We thought carefully about what type of personality and characteristics would make the perfect teacher and then wrote our descriptions. We hope you enjoy reading them.
