  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 Pupil Achievements Congratulations to our Golden Awards winners in Pre-Prep and new badge winners in Prep.
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 Element News - Week 5 This week the Year 8s stood in front of their respective Elements for their hustings. Positions of Responsibility are very important to our senior pupils. We encourage all pupils to stand up and speak in front of their Element. All pupils did!
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 Boarding News We had more cookery again this week with cupcake inventions on Monday. Year 4 and 5 also enjoyed a fantastic cinema evening on Tuesday!
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 The Big Draw Assembly In our assembly this week we took part in The Big Draw. The Big Draw is the world's largest drawing festival with the goal of promoting visual literacy and art education.
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 Year 2 Year 2 celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The children enjoyed the traditional dish of sliced apples dipped in honey which symbolises the wish for a sweet year ahead! They thought it was delicious!
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 STEM Lots of fun this week in STEM creating edible rocks and building viaducts!
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 Year 5 The year is 1592, 100 years after Columbus first landed in the West Indies. Who is the rightful owner of the island of Hispaniola (present day Dominican Republic and Haiti)? Linking Ethics, History and English, Year 5 have been writing speeches representing one of either the descendents of the Spanish Conquistadors, the enslaved Africans or the indigenous Taino people, a selection of which were presented at a Grand Hearing on Wednesday.
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 Year 8 Latin Year 8 Latin pupils continued their study of the Roman army this week by practising some Latin drill.
  • Tuesday 8 October 2019 European Day of Languages Pupils in Years 4 - 8 celebrated European Day of Languages in their language lessons last week. European Day of Languages is a national event and takes place every year by celebrating and recognising the many languages spoken in Europe.

  • Friday 27 September 2019 Global Studies Year 7 have been learning about deserts in our ‘Survival’ theme. We have been discussing the Marathon des Sables (a 250km endurance race through the Sahara Desert, often referred to as the toughest race on Earth) and whether extreme race events like this should exist.
  • Friday 27 September 2019 Forest School The children had a lovely time during Forest School this week. They enjoyed bug hunting, climbing trees, mud painting and making leaf kebabs!

  • Monday 23 September 2019 Pupil Achievements Golden Awards are made weekly to individuals in each class based on the Golden Rules. Under these criteria, the awards are made for the whole term, the child receiving an annotated leaf which is placed on the Golden Tree for all to see. In addition the child receives a Golden Award badge to wear for the week. The presentations are made weekly in the Pre-Prep assembly.
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Harvest Festival On Tuesday the whole school gathered to celebrate Harvest Festival with our guest Reverend Tony Bushell, the vicar of St Albright's Church in Stanway. Reverend Bushell spoke to us about the importance of helping those less fortunate than ourselves, which fits perfectly with our support of Colchester Night Shelter; the recipients of our food donations.
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Boarding News It has been another busy week in Boarding. On Monday, the boarders had a duck race in the pool, where they had enormous fun trying to catch as many rubber ducks as possible. Great fun was had by Miss Denny's Holmwood Bakeoff group who made (delicious) cheese straws.
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Buddy Reading On Wednesday the Buddies in Years 5, 6 & 7 met with their Buddies in Years 1, 2 and 3 for the first time this academic year. This is always a lovely occasion and the younger children read to their big Buddies, who really enjoyed the opportunity to hear them.
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Art & DT The pupils made a piece of architecture for DT, and a sculpture for Art, both based on buildings they had been researching. These items are currently on display in the Talbot Room.
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Global Studies Our Bright Sparks in Year 6 have been looking at the history of different inventions and their impact on the world, and, as a final activity, were asked to look to the future. They had to think about problems that the world is currently facing and suggest an invention that the world needs now.
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Produce Show The Produce Show is an event that took place last week, with many families bringing in cakes, cucumbers, carrots and more!
  • Monday 23 September 2019 Years 5 & 6 Phase Assembly This week our phase assembly was focused around humility. We discussed the concept of getting the basics right and being able to recognise and celebrate other people's contributions and successes.

  • Monday 16 September 2019 EYFS new building - Grand Opening! The Pre-Reception and Reception children spent a lovely morning with visiting author, Nick Butterworth, before the Year 1s joined parents and visitors for the grand opening of our new EYFS building.
  • Monday 16 September 2019 Boarding News This week the boarders have been settling into their new routine. We have had swimming, foot golf, art and cookery, in which we made cakes for the Macmillan Coffee Morning.
  • Monday 16 September 2019 Science across Years 3 to 7 Science has started the term with smells, fizzes and yummy things to eat! Pupils in Years 3 to 7 have been doing experiments linked with their theme for the term.
  • Monday 16 September 2019 Global Studies In Years 6 and 8, we started Global Studies with a reasoning task - organising objects, people and events into chronological order.

  • Monday 16 September 2019 Year 1 - Fruit! On Thursday, Year 1 made a fruit salad having read Oliver's Fruit Salad during the week. They had made lists of fruits they would like to include.
